A couple weeks ago, I wrote about how I've been struggling to take care of myself. It's been a tough couple years, if I'm being honest, but I really want to create joy again.
So... this morning I sang in the shower Reader.
Normally I listen to a podcast when I’m getting ready, but this morning I decided music was more what my soul needed (and my nervous system). It lightened me so much that I even danced a little too.
You see, music isn't just emotional or energizing, it's also regulating. Rhythm regulates the nervous system. So does singing (the vibration activates the vagus nerve) and dancing/movement. I basically provided a trifecta of safety cues to my nervous system.
And I felt it! I've felt more settled all day.
Of course, regulation has been on my mind a lot while I'm in the midst of recording all the workshops for next month's Unlocking Regulation event. It's been serving as an extra reminder to ensure that I have some mindful regulation in each and every day. I'm truly excited to share these workshops with you, because I know how empowering regulation is in all aspects of our kids' lives (and our own).
Today felt like a bit of a reset, so I'm going to play music with my showers from now on. It's never too late to create resets in your life (or your parenting), which is something Wendy Snyder and I discuss in this week's podcast episode. I hope you'll listen in.
With so much heart,

355: Why Starting Over Is a Parenting Superpower
with Wendy Snyder
Starting over in parenting is not a sign that you failed. It is one of the bravest, most powerful choices you can make.
In this conversation, I’m talking with Wendy Snyder about why fresh starts matter so much, especially when we’re raising neurodivergent kids and kids with strong wills, big feelings, and nervous systems that experience the world differently. We dig into what it really means to begin again after hard moments, reactive moments, or years of patterns that no longer feel aligned with who we want to be as parents.
This episode is full of compassion for parents who feel stuck in shame, who are trying to unlearn punishment-based parenting, and who want to create more safety, trust, and connection at home. We also talk about modeling emotional literacy, the power of co-regulation, why relationship matters more than control, and how our kids can call us into our own healing.
It’s never too late to change your parenting. You can interrupt old patterns. You can repair. You can build something different.

Parenting Quick Tip
Swap punishment for next-day problem solving.
When something big happens, name your feelings and focus on safety first instead of handing out consequences in the moment. Wait until everyone is calm, then talk through what happened, what your child needed, and what skill needs more support. Create one logical next step together that teaches instead of shames.
Kids learn best when their nervous system feels safe. Waiting for regulation makes the thinking brain more available for reflection, responsibility, and real skill-building.

Most kids’ supplements fall into two buckets… they’re easy to take but not that meaningful, or they’re solid but kids refuse them.
This one stood out to me because it was created by Brittyn Coleman, an autism dietitian who works with selective eaters every day, so it’s actually built for real-life routines, not ideal ones.
