☀️ Silence can be more intrusive than sound

Have you experienced a moment when something clicks for your kid? When they finally have awareness of a particular behavior, when they finally start writing down their assignments, when they take care of something without you having to ask, much less nag?

That click feels magical. Something has finally happened that you spent sleepless nights worrying would never come.

It feels like a whole new world has opened up. Am I right?

We've had a wave of things clicking lately and it practically makes me euphoric. Yes, there's still a lot to work on, but we're finally getting there. I see independence on the horizon.

If you haven't experienced anything clicking for your kiddo quite yet, don't worry, it will come.

If you've had a few, but not enough to feel like a complete change, it will happen.

It's all about our kid's timing, not the timing we want.

And speaking of our kids' timing... I finally got Luke back on the podcast to share more of his insider's view on neurodivergence. We're talking about how silence can be more intrusive than sound. I hope you'll listen or watch.

With so much heart,

370: When Silence is Louder than Sound

with Penny and Luke

My son Luke is back on Beautifully Complex to break down exactly how music works as a full nervous system tool for his neurodivergent brain — for focus, for connection, for sleep, for feeling what he can't always say out loud.

We also get into something I think every parent needs to hear: when your kid won't talk about the hard stuff, the way back to connection isn't through the hard conversation at all. It's through what they're passionate about.

TOWN HALL

Beautifully Complex Town Hall

August 27 at 7:30 pm ET | 4:30 pm PT

I'm hosting an online town hall for our community. It will be a chance to discuss what's working for our kids and families, what's not working, the support you need, the resources you're hoping for, what I'm missing in supporting you better, etc.

My hope is that you'll leave the conversation feeling seen, heard, and understood with a sense of community and a renewed empowerment to make the world a better place for neurodivergent individuals.
