☀️ Have a say in the support YOU need

A few weeks ago, some of you joined me for a town hall. It was parents talking honestly about what's working, what's not, and what kind of support actually helps.

During the town hall, parents shared some wins, like catching their own dysregulation before it escalates and making small shifts to create more capacity.

They also shared some struggles, of course. General overwhelm, kids falling apart at home after school, feeling isolated, and the world not taking ADHD seriously were among the challenges. I bet you can relate.

What I found important about the town hall was identifying gaps in resources and supports. The group shared that they'd like more resources for twice-exceptionality, better educator training on teaching kids who think and learn differently, and a way to connect with local parents who get it, in person.

Since this was a small sample of our community, I want to bring that conversation to more of you to add to the discussion. Today, we're starting with just one question:

If you could ease ONE thing right now, what would it be?
Click only ONE, whichever hits closest.

→ Mornings & transitions

→ School & advocacy

→ My own regulation

→ Feeling so alone in this

If you can spare a few more minutes and want to tell me more — what's working, what's not, what you wish existed — there's a short survey here. This helps me know where the gaps really are, so I can create what I'm able to and advocate for what I can't.

You're not carrying this by yourself.

With so much heart,

376: The Problems with Punishment

with Bryan Post

Punishment might get fast compliance, but according to child behavior expert Bryan Post, it often blocks the very part of the brain your child needs to actually learn. This week, Bryan and I get into the neuroscience of stress, why a dysregulated parent can't calm a dysregulated child, and his simple breathe, slow down, soften practice for hard moments. It's a different way to think about behavior, discipline, and what your child's brain is doing underneath it all.

PARENTING QUICK TIP

This "Pendulum Swing" is my favorite regulation exercise for myself. You can use it too and even teach it to your kids. (For young kids, it could be the tick tock of the clock.)
